Tipalea Partners has lodged a development application with Devonport City Council (Tasmania) for a new $40 million retail centre to be opened in 2024 – Stony Rise Village.
Prominently located on the corner of Stony Rise Road and Friend Street, the new 7,500 m2 neighbourhood retail centre will generate over 1,000 jobs for Devonport.
Woolworths has committed to a long-term lease as anchor tenant of the new centre, with plans to open a full-line 4,000 m2 supermarket, featuring Click & Collect and direct-to-boot services.
“Stony Rise Village presented a compelling opportunity for Woolworths to deliver a brand new full-line store outside the Devonport CBD and closer to the strongly growing surrounding suburbs of Stoney Rise, Miandetta and further south. It will complement our existing supermarket and take some of the pressure off the CBD store,” said Angie Ranger of Woolworths.
The supermarket will be complemented by a range of supporting retail and food outlets, with potential options including a medical centre, vet, pharmacy, bottle shop, cafes, bakery and a car wash. Tipalea Partners will begin the leasing campaign later in 2022.
Stony Rise Village will provide convenient everyday shopping facilities for the booming residential populations in Stony Rise, Miandetta and further south to Latrobe, Spreyton, Sheffield and other suburbs.
“The local community population is on such a high-growth trajectory, and Stony Rise Village is essential retail infrastructure that supports and enables this growth – these residents shouldn’t have to battle into the CBD to do their basic everyday shopping! Not only does it underwrite the continued growth of Devonport, but it importantly delivers convenience, choice and competitive prices to the local community,” said Scott Spanton, CEO of Tipalea Partners.
The centre will be the most technologically advanced neighbourhood centre in north-west Tasmania, with a full solar array, EV charging bays, a weather station, free WiFi, wireless charging stations, a dedicated smart building app, cloud-based CCTV throughout, car counters, duress intercoms and a building information dashboard.
Stony Rise Village will also introduce a range of contemporary retail design features including a modern and welcoming parents’ room, abundant and convenient parking with shade sails, leading-edge technology and security, safe pedestrian access, separate truck and loading access and engaging public art.
Tipalea anticipates Council and State Government approvals will take to mid-2023 to secure and subject to construction costs, commence the build in late 2023 with completion hoped for late 2024 / early 2025.
